What goes into your customs clearance bill

Every destination country calculates customs differently, but the structure is usually the same. Here's what appears on a typical G-Star Express clearance invoice.

Import Duty Percentage of the CIF value (Cost + Insurance + Freight). Rates vary by HS code and country. Varies
VAT / GST Applied on the total of CIF value plus import duty. Standard rate for most goods in most countries. Varies
Brokerage Fee Fixed fee per shipment for customs broker handling, documentation, and filing. $75 – $250
Port Handling Charged by the terminal or port for unloading, staging, and container release. $120 – $400
Storage / Demurrage Accrues if the shipment stays at port beyond the free window. Charged per day. $25 – $80 / day
Inspection Fee Charged only if customs inspects the shipment. Fixed fee per container or LCL unit. $50 – $180
G-Star Clearance Service Our coordination and clearance service fee. Included in the quote or billed separately. Fixed

Who pays? In most cases, the consignee (or shipper, depending on the Incoterms agreed at booking) is responsible for customs duties, taxes, and clearance fees. G-Star Express coordinates the process and can facilitate clearance through our priority and diplomatic channels, provided the responsible party pays the required fees. If the consignee refuses to pay and the cargo is held, all additional costs (return, storage, disposal) remain the responsibility of the party named in the shipping agreement.
